- Develop and implement financial plans, budgets, and forecasts aligned with the institution's strategic objectives.
- Conduct regular financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Provide insightful recommendations to senior management based on financial analysis and projections.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards specific to the education sector.
- Present financial reports to the board of directors and other stakeholders as required.
- Manage the institution's budgeting process, including allocation of funds to various departments and programs.
- Monitor budget performance and implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure financial targets are met.
- Work closely with department heads to develop and track departmental budgets.
- Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Implement internal controls and procedures to safeguard the institution's assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry trends that may impact financial operations.
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity to ensure the institution meets its financial obligations.
- Optimize cash management strategies to maximize returns and minimize risks.
- Coordinate with treasury management and banking partners as needed.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
- Address any audit findings and implement recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. MBA or CPA/CA/ACCA preferred.
- Proven experience as a Finance Controller or similar role within the education sector.
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles and financial management best practices.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards specific to educational institutions.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and a track record of driving results in a complex organizational environment.
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP or Oracle.
- Knowledge of grant accounting and funding mechanisms in the education sector.
- Familiarity with fundraising and donor management processes.
- Certification such as Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) is a plus
