- Provide research development analysis for specific application projects including the delivery and reporting of all technical activities within a designated area of the RIC2D lab.
- Be a technical expert in an application domain, with some 'cross training' and familiarity with at least one other lab application.
- Provide support to ensure that all activities undertaken in a lab are fully and adequately planned, projected and organized.
- Ensure that all activities are undertaken to strict health and safety requirements.
- Participate in exploratory meetings with prospects and third parties and contribute to proposed development plans (including costings and pricing suitable for quotes and proposals where necessary).
- Liaise with relevant academics with experience and expertise to develop strong and effective working relationships with them, their research groups and activities.
- Contribute to a database of relevant material and case studies as a resource for RIC2D.
- Write end of project reports.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure best practice is captured and communicated across the GEIC's activities.
- Be familiar with and provide guidance and expertise relating to existing and emerging standards (and other trade/sector/industrial activities) that have an impact on RIC2D and 2D material applications.
- Identify, source, maintain and upgrade lab equipment (with supervision from the lab manager) and allocate time on all equipment in an optimum and effective manner.
- Be responsible for maintaining & performance of all equipment within a lab, ensuring it is available for use with a minimum of interruption and down time in conjunction with the Lab Manager.
- Undertake data analysis to support the activities of project work from faculty and industry partners.
- Work with RIC2D lead to support responses to opportunities involving commercial engagements in a timely and professional manner, at all times working to ensure the reputation of RIC2D and Khalifa University.
- Contribute to other activities within RIC2D including (but not limited to) exploratory projects, consultancy, training, studentships and collaborative projects.
- PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related field.
- Proven R&D experience within industrial or scientific settings (at least 5 years) preferably in graphene, advanced carbons and 2D materials.
- Proven experience in testing and analysing materials and using analytical results to make informed decisions to improve/optimise production process conditions. Incorporation of functionalised and non-functionalised materials into coatings and inks.
- Ability to plan, organize, co-ordinate and execute to ensure the production of the agreed deliverables to the project plan.
- Good problem-solving skills and creative approach to research & development.
- Ability to work to deadlines, potentially on multiple projects and ability to prioritise accordingly.
- Experience working with confidential data.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to deal with both scientific and commercial issues authoritatively.
- Ability to understand key technological aspects of science and engineering and be able to communicate them to a variety of audiences.
- Ability and motivation to set goals and meet targets in a market-led environment working across a broad range of industrial sectors.
- Self-motivation and the capability of being team player as well as team leader.
- The ability to demonstrate an adaptable and flexible approach to work in a dynamic and changing environment.
- Experience in managing health and safety in a laboratory or production environment.
- Business development skills, and strong commercial and financial acumen.
- Understanding of issues concerning ownership of intellectual property.
- Contacts with research active organisations outside the university environment.
