- Perform the specified tests on lubricants, fuels, greases, speciality products, raw materials and used oils as per standard test methods. Record results and ensure that the test results are in accordance with the products specifications. Enter the test results into the Laboratory Quality Control System after confirmation and final approval from Senior Chemist / Chemist.
- Prepare chemical solutions in accordance with the established procedures and standards.
- Perform basic calibration and maintenance of Laboratory instrument and equipment as assigned and under the supervision of the Senior Chemist / Chemist.
- Monitor the various tests and inform the Senior Chemist / Chemist in case of any abnormality. Report any damage or malfunctioning of the testing instrument and equipment.
- Carries out and perform extra tests to adjust the lubricant products, fuels and greases in the event of a failure in particular tests as requested by Senior Chemist / Chemist. If needed, take samples of the failed products from blending plant, stores, depots, etc.
- Maintains inventory of chemicals, testing apparatus, equipment, glassware and gas cylinders for the efficient operation of the Laboratory. Prepares requisitions for chemicals, glassware, etc in line with instruction from the Senior Chemist / Chemist.
- Ensures that Laboratory equipment, facilities, chemicals are maintained in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
- Provides assistance to the Senior Chemist / Chemist in the calibration of the instruments in the Laboratory.
- Make the required Lab Blend for the products and perform the required tests as requested by Senior Chemist / Chemist.
- Perform testing of samples received from ASTM Proficiency Testing Programs (ASTM PTP) or other Laboratories, as part of Inter Lab Cross Check Programs as assigned by Senior Chemist / Chemist.
- Suggest the disposal of contaminated products and get the final approval from the Senior Chemist / Chemist prior to taking action.
- Visit, as assigned, the blending plant, depots and customer storage facilities to monitor the quality of production and storage and report any issues to the Senior Chemist / Chemist.
- As and when required, collect samples of petroleum products from blending plant, depots, ship, tanker, customer location, etc following the proper standard procedures.
- Assist in preparing the test reports and ensure proper distribution of same to all concerned.
- Follows the fire and safety regulations.
- Performs other similar and related duties as requested by the Supervisor
