- Oversee the customs clearance process for imported goods, including preparation and submission of customs declarations, import documentation, and clearance paperwork.
- Ensure compliance with import regulations, tariffs, duties, and tax requirements imposed by customs authorities and government agencies.
- Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other third-party service providers to expedite customs clearance and resolve any issues or discrepancies that may arise.
- Stay informed about import laws, regulations, and trade policies, monitoring changes and updates that may impact import clearance procedures.
- Interpret import regulations and advise internal stakeholders on compliance requirements, documentation standards, and import restrictions for specific product categories.
- Develop and implement import compliance programs, policies, and procedures to mitigate risks and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with overseas suppliers, vendors, and manufacturers to obtain required import documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers and vendors, ensuring alignment with import clearance processes and requirements.
- Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to optimize import logistics, reduce lead times, and improve import cost efficiency.
- Identify and assess import-related risks, such as customs delays, compliance issues, and duty liabilities, developing strategies and controls to mitigate risks effectively.
- Conduct periodic audits and assessments of import clearance processes, documentation, and controls to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on import compliance practices, tariff classification, valuation methods, and trade documentation requirements.
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to import clearance, such as clearance times, duty costs, and compliance rates.
- Generate regular reports and metrics on import clearance activities, highlighting trends, issues, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to reconcile import-related costs, duties, and taxes for accurate financial reporting and budgeting.
- Bachelor's degree in international trade, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field; additional certification in import/export management is advantageous.
- Proven experience in import clearance, customs brokerage, or trade compliance roles, preferably in the FMCG industry or a related sector.
- Strong knowledge of import regulations, customs procedures, and trade compliance requirements, with experience dealing with customs authorities and government agencies.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
